About the project
In July 2018 ‘Toy Mic Trev’ one of Cardiff’s most beloved and recognisable buskers passed away, three months after he made one final performance on Queen Street. To create a lasting memorial to Trev and to add a little additional culture to Queen Street FOR Cardiff are seeking to install a mural on the side of the Greggs branch by Trev’s famous spot. The mural will be accompanied by an explanatory plaque.
We’re looking for an artist to deliver this project with us – we’d like to see some of your other portrait work, with reference images as well details of any previous work on similar projects. Given the site in question direct application of the artwork to building is not possible and it is proposed that a solution such as application onto aluminium composite panel is deployed in this instance. Any record of your work with such a material would be appreciated.
The budget for this work is flexible and the cost of preparing and maintaining the site will be borne by FOR Cardiff directly. At this expressions of interest stage please provide a proposed budget for the works involved.
Given the local focus of this installation and the nature of FOR Cardiff’s business we are seeking to work with a Cardiff based artist or an artist with a strong connection to Cardiff.
