Your Guide to St David’s Day in Cardiff

St David’s Day or ‘Dydd Gŵyl Dewi’ in Welsh takes place on the 1st of March each year in honour of the patron Saint of Wales. This year, St David’s Day will take place on a Saturday, meaning there’s even more ways to mark the occasion! From Welsh cakes and Bara Brith to parades and workshops – where better to celebrate than in the Welsh capital, Cardiff?

Cardiff’s St David’s Day Parade

On Saturday 1st March, the National St David’s Day parade will pass through Cardiff city centre, starting at 12:30pm at City Hall. A celebration of Welsh culture and heritage, the city’s streets will be full of Welsh flags, daffodils, and families in traditional Welsh dress.

Welsh Afternoon Tea at the Park Plaza Hotel

Be the first to try Park Plaza’s new Welsh Afternoon Tea inspired by the flavours and dishes of Wales! Welsh Cake Making Masterclass at the Cardiff Townhouse by Coppa Club

From 1st – 7th March, local pub, bar & restaurant chain Croeso Pubs, which owns the Philharmonic, Blue Bell, Brewhouse, Daffodil and Retro, will be celebrating St David’s Day with a week of special food and drink offers and discounts! Specials include a Welsh rarebit hot dog, Glamorgan sausages, a Gavin & Stacey inspired cocktail menu, and even free entry to Retro nightclub for anyone called Dave, Dai, David, or Dewi!

Local Music and Theatre at Porter’s Cardiff

On St David’s Day, Porter’s will launch a new 60-seat fringe theatre in the basement of its venue on Barrack Lane. Tickets to the theatre’s first show, The Last Flower, are currently sold out, however, Porter’s will be hosting a line-up of fantastic local musicians to mark the Welsh national feast day and celebrate the venue’s new theatre space. Swn Spotlight Sessions are presenting local bands Papaya Noon, Orbit Street, & Lily Maya at the 1:30pm matinee show before the Trends Party Band take to the stage at 9pm with a mix of pop, rock and disco!
