Cardiff’s New Hotspot for Himalayan and Coastal Indian Flavours

Cardiff has a new addition to its ever-growing food scene, and it’s one you won’t want to miss. Base Camp Indian Kitchen, located at 29 Park Place, promises to take diners on a culinary adventure, celebrating the rich and varied cuisines of India—from the aromatic dishes of the Himalayan mountains to the vibrant, zesty flavours of the southern coast.

Set in a historic venue that once hosted legendary musical acts, the space has been given a fresh lease of life after being closed for nearly two years. Base Camp brings not only fantastic food but also a sense of history and atmosphere to its unique location.

The brains behind this exciting new venture is Ram Sapkota, who grew up in the Himalayan region and began his career at the age of 15, running a small Nepalese café. After 15 years in the UK hospitality scene—working as General Manager at Cardiff’s beloved Mint & Mustard Ram is now opening his first solo venture in Cardiff. He’s joined by two award-winning chefs: Soban Pokhriyal, known for his work at Dishoom and Hilton, and Rahul Chauhan, who’s honed his skills at Mint & Mustard, The Ivy restaurants and top prestigious Hotels -Taj and many more. Together, this powerhouse team has created a menu that’s as diverse as it is exciting.

What’s on the Menu?

Signature Dishes You’ll Love: Indulge in their Coastal Coconut Chicken, a tropical delight; the hearty, classic Kashmiri Lamb Rogan Josh; or the luxurious Truffle Paneer Tikka, a dish that redefines indulgence

Exclusive Vegan Menu: Vegans are not missed out either, the restaurant offers a creative and flavour-packed selection of plant-based dishes designed to impress even the most devoted meat-eaters.

Goan Fish Currie, Lukla Chicken and Nobashi Prawns

The restaurant’s ethos, encapsulated in its slogan “Peaks to Coastal Cooking”, highlights its mission to showcase the diverse flavours of Indian cuisine. Expect dishes packed with bold spices from the mountains, balanced by the fresh and fragrant tastes of the coast.

Base Camp Indian Kitchen is now open and is shaping up to be a favourite among foodies in the city, offering something truly unique in a setting that combines history, charm, and exceptional cuisine.
